DUBLIN, OH, June 2, 2008 — A gift of $150,000 from the Cardinal Health Foundation for the future Grounds of Remembrance in Dublin Veterans Park marks a major step forward in making the grounds a reality.

Jody Davids, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President of Global Shared Services for Dublin-based Cardinal Health, will present a check tonight to Dublin City Council at the Municipal Building, 5200 Emerald Pkwy.

“As a member of the Dublin community, I am so pleased the Cardinal Health Foundation could assist to make the Grounds of Remembrance in Dublin Veterans Park a reality for our community,” Davids said. “The project will remember veterans for their service and sacrifice and be a place where family, friends, and the entire community can gather to contemplate, reflect and honor them.”

The Grounds of Remembrance in Dublin Veterans Park will be built on approximately one acre located along the Indian Run in Historic Dublin. Work on the park is expected to be completed by either Veterans Day 2008 or Memorial Day 2009.

“This level of investment by Cardinal Health in our community tribute to veterans reflects Cardinal’s recognition of the contributions of veterans and their families toward the peace and freedoms we all enjoy in Dublin” said Dublin Mayor Marilee Chinnici-Zuercher. We are deeply grateful for their very generous gift and hope that it will inspire many others to join in supporting this project.”

The Grounds of Remembrance in Dublin Veterans Park will feature the following elements:
  • The Recognition Walk, led by the bronze Guide Rail, focuses on the individual journey of service men and women through etchings on 500 dedication stones;
  • The Loggia frames the place of ceremony with the words from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn” etched on its north side;
  • The Memory Wall, which provides a place for visitors to leave transient messages, is the site of a long limestone bench for personal remembrance;
  • The Sycamore Grove provides for wandering and large gathering events;
  • The Dedication Wall pays tribute to the branches of service.

The project cost will total approximately $700,000 including design, construction, park development and site improvements. So far, approximately $560,000 has been raised including $160,000 from individuals, families, foundations and corporations; $250,000 from Dublin City Council and now the $150,000 from Cardinal Health.
