Cardinal Health supports relief efforts across the globe

DUBLIN, OH, June 3, 2008 — In light of the recent cyclone in Myanmar, South Asia, and the earthquake in Southwest China, the Cardinal Health Foundation is matching all employee contributions made to humanitarian organizations World Vision or CARE up to $200,000.
“World Vision and CARE are two organizations Cardinal Health often works with during disaster relief efforts,” said Dianne Radigan, Director of Community Relations. “They already have staff on the ground in the areas hardest hit by the cyclone and earthquake, and we trust these organizations will make the best use of the funds we provide them to get services and resources to those most in need.”
Another way Cardinal Health is helping with the relief efforts is by partnering with Heart to Heart to donate products such as gloves and surgical packs to those areas hit hardest.
In addition, Cardinal Health partnered with FedEx to cover the shipping costs from Cardinal Health facilities direct to Heart to Heart.
About World Vision
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
With nearly 600 staff members on the ground, World Vision has already assisted 78,000 people by providing water, rice, and survival items.
"We have a very narrow window of opportunity to ensure people have access to potable drinking water and sanitation," said Samson Jeyakumar, Child Development Specialist with World Vision. "Disease outbreaks spread by dirty water, poor sanitation, and mosquitoes are a major concern. Our priority will be to save children and their families from diseases that spread quickly, such as diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, and others in the wake of disasters such as this."
About CARE
CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, which places special focus on working alongside poor women because they feel that equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty.
As the massive emergency effort continues, CARE is working tirelessly to meet the needs of the survivors. CARE has distributed rice rations and first aid kits throughout the township of Thaketa. In this early relief phase, CARE is working to arrange delivery of the kits to 50,000 families (250,000 people). Despite difficulties encountered due to the Myanmar military regime, CARE is committed for the long-haul.
“This match through the Cardinal Health Foundation is a great way for employees to double their support for relief efforts in these regions,” said Radigan.
