Employee fundraising highlights

“During the summer months, thousands of employees participated in walks, runs, bicycling events and other activities to raise money for charitable organizations,” says Emily Sandman, Consultant, Community Relations. “On behalf of Community Relations: Thank you to all of our employees! We’re so grateful for all that you do to make our communities stronger and healthier.”

Here are some of the summer’s fundraising highlights:

American Heart Association Heart Walks:
Cardinal Health is a National Company Team, which means that we participate in Heart Walks across the country, with enterprise-wide fundraising goals. This year, nearly 1,200 employees participated in eight Heart Walks across the country (Central Ohio; Cleveland, OH; Los Angeles, Bay Area and Inland Empire in CA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; and Pierce County, WA). Collectively, employees raised more than $242,000 for heart disease research.

Pelotonia:
This summer marked the ninth annual Pelotonia, a cycling event that raises money for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Cardinal Health employees have participated from the beginning. This year, 212 riders, 45 volunteers and 15 virtual riders from Cardinal Health joined forces to raise almost $440,000 to date. (Pelotonia fundraising continues through Friday, October 7.)

Tour de Cure:
The Tour de Cure is a series of bicycling events across the country that raises money for diabetes research through the American Diabetes Association. This summer, 152 Cardinal Health riders participated in 12 different Tour de Cure teams to raise nearly $40,000. (Tour de Cure events are scheduled into November, so total Cardinal Health involvement and dollars raised will continue to increase.)

VeloSano:
This summer was the third annual VeloSano, a cycling event that raises money for cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. Seventy Cardinal Health riders participated in 2016, raising nearly $60,000.

Fisher House Foundation:
This organization is best known for its Fisher Houses, which provide a free home away from home for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. Through our charitable initiatives at RBC, the Pharmaceutical National Meeting, and the Medical National Meeting, as well as a fiercely competitive dodgeball tournament in Dublin, employees, customers, business partners and the Cardinal Health Foundation gave more than $400,000 to Fisher House Foundation.
