Cardinal Health China is your trusted, go-to-market partner. We enable healthcare in China by providing essential, world-class healthcare services and products.
We have established ourselves as a front-running pharmaceutical distributor in China, developing exceptionally strong business relationships with major multinational pharmaceutical companies doing business in China, along with many local Chinese manufacturers. With a business philosophy rooted in mutually beneficial partnerships with our principals and customers, our focus is the creation of long-term value and business growth to boost sales and profitability for our partners and Cardinal Health China. Our distribution network extends nationwide, including more than 340 cities, 9,000 businesses, 65,000 hospitals and 148,000 retail pharmacies. Direct distribution covers hospitals and retail pharmacies in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Wuhan, Chongqing, Chengdu and Wuxi among others currently being added.
In May 2003, Cardinal Health China became the first foreign-invested pharmaceutical company to be granted a distribution license by the Ministry of Commerce and State Food and Drug Administration, and the first foreign investor in China to legally distribute pharmaceuticals. The ground-breaking move opened up a new chapter for the company. With close to 20 years of experience in the Chinese market, Cardinal Health China is able to leverage its distribution infrastructure to expand operations of companies with pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer health and other healthcare products. Our enterprising approach is shown in our many innovations in pharmaceutical distribution, direct-to-patient services, consumer healthcare solutions, and multiple supply chain models.
Founded in Shanghai in 1993, Cardinal Health China (previously named “Yong Yu”) initially offered distribution management services to pharmaceutical companies. The business focused on importing products and logistics services in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Shanghai. To extend coverage to other major pharmaceutical markets in China, sub-branches were later successfully set up in Guangzhou and Beijing. In 1997, the company sets up the first pharmaceutical distribution company in Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area. With the two companies acting as a bridge into the China market, Cardinal Health China opens a door for foreign corporations to invest in China’s pharmaceutical distribution market.
As China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, the government pledged to gradually open the market of pharmaceutical distribution in the end of 2004. In May 2003, Cardinal Health China became the first foreign-invested pharmaceutical company to be granted a distribution license by the Ministry of Commerce and State Food and Drug Administration, and the first foreign investor in China to legally distribute pharmaceuticals.
In the past few years, Cardinal Health China has acquired seven direct sales companies in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Wuhan, Chongqing, Chengdu and Wuxi. In addition, the company expanded its service range, covering retail pharmacies, medical devices and vaccines. We also optimized and expanded our logistics services, developing a solid reputation for the quality of our cold chain and clinical trials logistics management.
In 2010, the company was acquired by Cardinal Health, entering into a new era of development. In 2011, Cardinal Health China opened new Consumer Healthcare (CHC) division, expanding into the retail healthcare market. The channel information management system provides data management support for day-to-day operational and strategic decision-making of domestic and international pharmaceutical companies. The newly established Shanghai Waogaoqiao bonded warehouse and the Beijing Tianzhu bonded warehouse will continue to serve and provide opportunities for our principals. With Cardinal Health Sichuan and Cardinal Health Wuxi joining the group, the Cardinal Health China strategic layout is further strengthened.
