Services and solutions

Prevent and manage infections

MedMined™ services help reduce the incidence of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by identifying process breakdowns and allowing hospital staff to focus on quality issues as they emerge. The solution requires no data entry, and has repeatedly produced a measurable 300% financial return in the first year.1

Efficient data management

Utilizing MedMined™ services, Infection Control Professionals (ICPs) can eliminate the hours spent manually reviewing laboratory and patient data, and instead focus their efforts on education and interventions. Our solution provides ICPs with real-time, customizable event monitoring and reporting across the entire health system that:

  • Requires no manual data entry
  • Allows view of patient details, current and prior admissions
  • Creates reports based on any combination of location, organism, LOS, physician, source, resistance, etc.
  • Provides standard and user-defined line listings
  • Produces real-time alerts of significant events
  • Creates graphs and process control charts without duplicates
  • Exports data to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and other programs

The Nosocomial Infection Marker (NIM)

Our electronic method of consistently and objectively identifying HAIs, the NIM method, provides an essential tool for internal and external reporting of HAIs. Benchmarking capabilities allow hospitals to compare infection rates by unit, hospital-wide and to other facilities throughout the country. NIM scorecards generate reports of HAIs by both infection type and location. These scorecards demonstrate the full scope of Infection Control’s positive impact in improvement efforts throughout the hospital by offering consistent measurement over time.

Antimicrobial management

Correcting antimicrobial utilization through intervention results in 1.3 days reduced length of stay. The MedMined™ antimicrobial management service helps improve patient outcomes and reduce costs associated with inpatient antimicrobial use. Alerts allow clinicians to target their improvement efforts and dedicate more time to patient care.  Reports document utilization trends to monitor process improvement actions, including interventions and whether an issue is resolved. This service:
  • Allows view of detailed patient histories
  • Reduces time spent manually reviewing charts, cultures and sensitivity results
  • Provides customizable alert classes
  • Creates user-defined antibiogram reports in a matter of minutes
  • Demonstrates value of efforts on an ongoing basis

Financial analysis

Our services enable Infection Control to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right evidence to improve processes in necessary ways. This results in fewer HAIs, less non-reimbursed variable costs and improved operating margins – a bottom line impact of MedMined™ services.2 In addition to the NIM scorecard, an annual financial analysis is provided using your hospital’s cost accounting system data to provide a complete picture of the impact of hospital infections.
