Pharmacists in regionally located Pharmacy Service Centers receive the medication orders by fax or scan technology. Then via HIPAA-secure Internet connection, the pharmacists log into the client hospital pharmacy computer system and review the medication profile, review necessary lab values, enter the medication into the patient profile, and authorize the order for administration. This process provides pharmacist review before the medication is administered to the patient, increasing patient safety and reducing medication errors.
