Today every pharmacist is being asked to serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students. This program will provide pharmacists with an
overview of ACPE guidelines for early and advanced practice rotations. Examples of course descriptions, expectations and outcomes
will also be provided. The program explores different teaching methods utilized by preceptors and examples of processes that can serve as templates for practitioners to use at their community pharmacy.

Prescription and over-the-counter medications: abuse by children, adolescents and adults (.2 CEU)

Prescription medication abuse by teens and young adults is a growing problem in the United States. As reported in the Partnership for Drug Free America’s annual tracking study: one in five patients has abused a prescription pain medication, one in five report abusing prescription stimulants and tranquilizers and one in ten has abused cough medication. This course will provide the participant with an overview of OTC abuse by children, adolescents and adults.

COPD, Asthma and the impact of CFC to HFA Inhalers (.15 CEU)

The FDA issued a final regulation on March 31, 2005, that requires the phase out of all CFC albuterol metered-dose inhalers by
December 31, 2008. The transition from CFC to hydrofluoralkanes (HFA) inhalers will require pharmacists to educate patients
on changes in taste, spray characteristics and trailing effects. Keeping patients compliant with therapy is essential for cost-effective management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This professionally developed, interactive program is really three programs in one: a review of the new practice guidelines for asthma, a review of the new practice guidelines for COPD and practical tips for patient counseling on inhaler use.
