Cardinal Health is committed to the development of diverse businesses to meet the firm's needs both now and in the future. As business conditions warrant and the market demands, certain diverse suppliers are candidates for development. This development takes place via the mentor-protégé program within Cardinal Health. As a formal mentor of the Department of Defense’s Mentor-Protégé Program, Cardinal Health will seek to support and develop business enterprises in designated categories.
The development of these business enterprises is accomplished through mentoring that will be administered by Cardinal Health's Director of Small Business Development. Mentoring within Cardinal Health can be formal or informal. A formal agreement within Cardinal Health will consist of a written Mentoring Business Agreement. This mentoring initiative with specific deliverables will focus on identifying and aligning the resources of an enterprise in one of the aforementioned categories with Cardinal Health and enhancing the protégés' business/technical/quality capabilities. This new endeavor shows the commitment that exists in the company to supplier diversity.
Moreover, on an on-going basis, Cardinal Health seeks diverse businesses with which to do business. Cardinal Health will support these companies through informal mentoring, which is not executed through a specific agreement.
