AstoundŽ Fabric

AstoundŽ fabric. Thinking in three dimensions.

AORN

Protection - improved barrier

Safety is a priority – it's why we wear gowns in the first place. Astound® fabric is engineered for maximum protection. This unique three-layer microfiber composite offers:
  • a tough outer layer designed to resist abrasion and puncture
  • a middle layer providing exceptional barrier resistance to fluid penetration
  • a soft bottom layer adding comfort in addition to another layer of protection

Comfort - increased size and lighter basis weight We increased the chest area by 3" to improve mobility.
The overlap area was increased by 6" to increase the wraparound.
We increased the sleeves by 2" in the length.
The fabric weight is 35% lighter for greater overall comfort.
The air permeability was increased by 25% for more effective cooling.

Convenience - longer belts, larger transfer tabs
Convenience is a dimension often overlooked in gown design. That's why we made the belts on our Astound™ gowns longer. We increased the size of the transfer tabs by 37% to aid in proper sterile technique and made them easy to write on for convenient note-taking.

SmartGown™ Breathable Impervious Fabric

SmartGownT surgical gowns - a smart combination of features, a smart choice. SmartGown fabric is breathable, impervious technology with a twist:

Smart - This fabric reacts to increasing temperature by increasing its water vapor transfer rate. To test the reactive qualities of SmartGownT surgical gowns' unique material, the water vapor transfer rates were measured at three different temperatures. As you can see, each time the temperature rises, the amount of water vapor that escapes from the material also increases, by as much as 64% overall. And, the more water vapor that's allowed to escape, the cooler and more comfortable you'll stay.

SmartGown™ chart - Smart

Cool - This gown was designed for maximum comfort and wearability. The generously sized shoulder and sleeve area gives you plenty of room to move and keep the air circulating. Combine that generous sizing with the responsive membrane that breathes more than the competition, and now you've got maximum comfort.

SmartGown™ chart - Cool

Tough - This surgical gown is manufactured with a no-compromise approach to quality and protection. Not only does the FDA recognize the gown fabric as being impervious, but also the main seams on the sleeves. Our proprietary sealing process creates a continuous bond along the length of the seam, eliminating the gaps that can occur with other sealing methods and providing you impervious protection where you need it.

TiburonŽ Fabric

TiburonŽ surgical drapes from Cardinal Health will change the way you think about drapes and draping.

Impervious

Enhanced fluid control

Abrasion-resistant

Lower link*

Surgical site infections pose a serious risk to patients undergoing any invasive procedure. Each incident can cost a facility an average of $3,000 in added expenses and prolong the length of stay by seven to nine days. With more than 500,000 of these infections occurring each year, it's clear there are many factors that impact the overall risk, including the barrier provided by surgical drapes.

TiburonŽ fabric is a three-layer composite made up of an absorbent fluid control layer, an impermeable membrane and a patient comfort layer.

Tiburon® fabric layers

The top layer of spunbond microfiber fabric receives a treatment which makes it absorbent. TiburonŽ fabric's impermeable middle layer is a cast-extruded polyethylene membrane laminated to the nonwoven components. This thin membrane adds little to the fabric weight, yet it provides a fluid barrier substantial enough to qualify as impervious by rigorous FDA-recognized standards. The lighter, bottom fabric layer is engineered for maximum patient comfort.

Tiburon® fabric - Tough

This fabric is tough.
It's engineered to be impervious for maximum patient and clinician safety. It's resistant to abrasion and punctures, yet its flexible, cloth-like properties allow it to drape naturally, following the contours of the patient.

Tiburon® fabric - Impervious

Impervious
TiburonŽ fabric was engineered by scientists with the help of clinicians who truly understand the clinical environment. TiburonŽ fabric passes both industry standard tests required to be considered impervious and therefore provides the highest level of protection available.

Absorbency
TiburonŽ fabric is impervious. The absorbent top layer can effectively hold and disperse fluid away from the patient, reducing the chance of contamination and infection.

Puncture, abrasion, strength and linting
A reliable drape must be able to stand up to the kind of handling and stress that can occur during a procedure. TiburonŽ fabric's performance in these industry standard tests clearly demonstrates its durability and strength.

*TiburonŽ fabric is lower linting than other currently available surgical drape fabrics when compared in laboratory testing.

EmeraldŽ Fabric

This thicker premium fabric provides greater strength and fluid protection, yet it's still very soft, low in lint and easy to drape. EmeraldŽ drapes are especially designed for lengthy, high-fluid procedures.
