An Integrated Antibiotic Stewardship/Infection Control Program Targeted To Decrease The Incidence Of Multi-Drug Resistant Gram Negative Infections In Adult Critical Care Units

The overall goal is to implement an integrated antibiotic stewardship / infection control program to reduce the rate of MDR infections at University Medical Center. The primary specific measureable objectives are:
  1. Reduce the rate of MDR infections due to Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas species by 75% compared to the 2004-2005 baseline years, as measured by infections per 1000 discharges.
  2. Reduce the rate of nosocomial acquired ESBL producing Klebsiella and E. coli isolates as measured by number of different patient isolates per month by 50% using as a baseline 2007-early 2008 trend line.
