An Integrated Antibiotic Stewardship/Infection Control Program Targeted To Decrease The Incidence Of Multi-Drug Resistant Gram Negative Infections In Adult Critical Care Units

The overall goal is to implement an integrated antibiotic stewardship / infection control program to reduce the rate of MDR infections at University Medical Center. The primary specific measureable objectives are:
- Reduce the rate of MDR infections due to Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas species by 75% compared to the 2004-2005 baseline years, as measured by infections per 1000 discharges.
- Reduce the rate of nosocomial acquired ESBL producing Klebsiella and E. coli isolates as measured by number of different patient isolates per month by 50% using as a baseline 2007-early 2008 trend line.
