Encouraging employee involvement

We encourage employees to make personal donations to eligible non-profit organizations online through the Cardinal Health Giving Station. We match employee donations of $25 dollars or more, up to $2,000 per employee. Donations to health-related, school and scholarship programs are matched at 100%, and donations to other non-profit organizations are matched at 50%.

We offer grants to non-profit organizations in recognition of employee volunteerism.

• Team Fundraising Grants of up to $2,500 recognize teams of three or more Cardinal Health employees who join together to raise funds for a local non-profit organization.
• Team Building Grants of up to $2,000 recognize teams of three or more Cardinal Health employees who join together to volunteer their time for a hands-on service project that serves a local non-profit organization.
• Volunteer Leadership Grants of up to $3,500 recognize employees who serve as board members, committee or fundraiser chairs for local non-profit organizations.

Employees classified as regular, non-union employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the Cardinal Health Essential to Community Program.

For inclusion in the program, organizations must be designated as 501(c)(3) by the IRS and must not fall within the categories below.

Organizations excluded from the program are those that:

• Don’t serve an educational, community service or charitable purpose for the community at large
• Have divisive or litigious public agendas
• Discriminate on the basis of age, disability, religion, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation;
• Are member-based (veterans and labor organizations, fraternal, athletic or social clubs)
• Are religious or political in nature
• Are classified as a 509(a)(3) supporting organization by the IRS

Charitable donations excluded are those that are for:

• Memberships, subscriptions, club dues, legal obligations, loan repayments
• Private foundations or deferred giving trusts
• Recreational or extracurricular activities (sponsored travel, marching bands, youth clubs)
• Payments that afford the contributor a personal benefit or special treatment such as free tickets, premiums or meals
