Our Employees CARE program recognizes and supports Cardinal Health employees and their involvement in the communities in which they live and work.

Employee matching gift program
The Cardinal Health Employees CARE Program provides eligible employees with the opportunity to make individual donations to any approved charitable organization through the Cardinal Health Giving Station.

  • Donations of $25 or more will be matched by the Cardinal Health Foundation
    • Health related or schools/scholarship programs are matched at 100%
    • Other charitable categories are matched at 50%
  • Employees are eligible for up to $2,000 in matching funds per fiscal year
  • Donations to United Way chapters are matched at 50%
    • No minimum contribution is required
    • United Way donations are excluded from the $2,000 annual matching cap

There are four ways to make a donation through the Cardinal Health Giving Station:
  1. Payroll deduction (one-time or on-going)
  2. Credit card
  3. Check
  4. Securities

Please note: Donations made through the Cardinal Health Giving Station are batch processed monthly and checks are sent to charitable organizations approximately 30 - 40 days after the end of the month in which the donation was fulfilled.

Volunteer leadership and team volunteer grants
The Cardinal Health Employees CARE Program provides eligible employees with the opportunity to submit for a CARE grant to recognize their involvement with an approved charitable organization. CARE grant applications are available via the Cardinal Health Giving Station.

There are three types of CARE grants available:

  1. Team Fundraising Grants are available for employees who:
    • Were part of a team of at least three Cardinal Health employees and
    • Raised funds, outside of normal working hours, through a ‘grass roots’ effort and as a one-time activity not already supported / funded by Cardinal Health.
  2. Team Project Grants are available for employees who:
    • Were part of a team of at least three Cardinal Health employees and
    • Who volunteered their time, outside of normal working hours, for a hands-on project in support of an approved charitable organization

    Team Volunteer Grants will either match pledges collected by a team or recognize the time a team spends working on a specific event, project or activity. Approved organizations are eligible to receive up to two Team Volunteer Grants for each specific event or project per fiscal year. The maximum grant per application is $2,500.
  3. Volunteer Leadership Grants are available to employees if they:
    • Serve as a board member for an approved organization;
    • Chair a major committee or fundraiser; or
    • Demonstrate meaningful leadership in some other way.

    • Approved charitable organizations are eligible to receive up to two Volunteer Leadership Grants per fiscal year. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $5,000.
    • Health organizations are eligible for grants up to $5,000
    • Other charitable organizations are eligible for grants up to $2,500
    • Additional grant funds may be awarded for employees serving on an executive committee

Employees classified as regular, non-union employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the Cardinal Health Employees CARE Program.

For inclusion in the program, organizations must be designated as 501(c)(3) by the IRS and fall within the following categories:

Program limitations
Organizations excluded from the program are those that:
  • Don’t serve an educational, community service or charitable purpose for the community at large
  • Have divisive or litigious public agendas
  • Discriminate on the basis of age, disability, religion, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation;
  • Are member-based (veterans and labor organizations, fraternal, athletic or social clubs)
  • Are religious or political in nature
  • Are classified as a 509(a)(3) supporting organization by the IRS

Charitable donations excluded are those that are for:
  • Memberships, subscriptions, club dues, legal obligations, loan repayments
  • Private foundations or deferred giving trusts
  • Recreational or extracurricular activities (sponsored travel, marching bands, youth clubs)
  • Payments that afford the contributor a personal benefit or special treatment such as free tickets, premiums or meals
