Manufacturing and sourcing of critical medical supply inventory
Cardinal Health brand facilities and sourcing
Many of our manufacturing sites are working seven days a week, 24 hours a day to meet demand. We have a broad and diverse manufacturing and supplier network across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Asia and EMEA that is not dependent on any one geography.
In addition, we are committed to ensuring our supply chain reflects our core values and our prioritization of both product quality and social responsibility. To do this, our Global Environmental Health and Safety priorities are built into our procurement and manufacturing standards and procedures. This includes thorough evaluation of our suppliers and sites to ensure no forced labor, safe work environments, and effective waste programs.
Finally, patient safety and product quality are at the forefront of every decision we make as we look to enable a trusted source of continuous supply. We will not consider options that would sacrifice patient safety or product quality.
For the Cardinal Health portfolio, we are:
- Conducting ongoing risk assessments of all finished goods and raw materials produced and sourced globally
- Assessing opportunities to insource products into our own manufacturing network
- Exploring how to retrofit and add equipment to production lines in order to increase production of items in most need (face masks, gowns and other essential PPE)
- Acquiring additional equipment to expand production of isolation gowns and face masks in our facilities
- Aggressively evaluating additional suppliers to expand and diversify critical product options
- Expediting our supplier validation and qualification processes
- Collaborating with government entities and industry partners to share knowledge, remove barriers and better align efforts
National brand partnerships
We work with many other manufacturers to distribute the critical products they produce. We are in constant communication with these national brand suppliers who are experiencing many of the same challenges we are. Like us, these suppliers are expanding their production capabilities to help address customer needs.
Cardinal Health is a distributor of N95 masks, but is not a manufacturer of N95 masks at this time. Given the shortage of N95 masks, Cardinal Health is working with a network of industry partners and the federal government to identify additional sources. And, in close partnership with key industrial manufacturers of N95s, we are distributing industrial N95 mask options, which the FDA authorized for use in healthcare settings. Given the acute need for N95s and limited historical usage of these industrial masks in our channel, we are leveraging FEMA and federal government recommendations to distribute these masks to critical hotspots in the U.S. For reference, this is a useful resource about how to optimize N95s.
