Building a comprehensive skin integrity program
Overview
The maintenance of skin integrity and prevention of injuries in any inpatient healthcare facility requires a comprehensive, structured, system-based, facility-level approach. This module will provide a roadmap to building such a facility-based program, including assessing facility need for a skin integrity program, planning for program implementation, implementing the program, and measuring the program's outcomes. Each of these elements is critical to the success of any inpatient healthcare facility skin integrity program.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participant should be able to:
- Identify the steps for assessing a facility need and benefits for implementing a comprehensive program.
- Explain the importance of staff engagement in building a comprehensive program.
- Describe ways of leveraging clinical expertise internally.
- Define the roles for Skin Integrity program's success.
- Identify the major steps for successfully implementing a skin integrity program.
