The VitalSource™ GPO team has added two new clinical resources on the member website related to COVID-19 and the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The first resource is a “COVID-19 Vaccine Handling Toolkit,” from U.S Pharmacopeia (USP). It provides critical information for pharmacists, doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, health profession students, and others who are involved in handling COVID-19 vaccines. It includes details about: (1.) Preparation and labeling, (2.) Storage, handling and transport, and (3.) Waste and disposal.
The second resource is ECRI’s “COVID-19 Resource Center,” which provides free and shareable resources for the healthcare community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We feel this website is a great resource and wanted to share it with our members.
To access these resources, visit the VitalSource™ GPO member website, under the “Clinical Tools” tab.
Additionally, we are aware there is conflicting guidance as oncology patients navigate the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. There has been much information shared on this topic recently, and we want to help inform clinicians as they do their best to provide direction to their patients.
Last month, the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) published a letter to Governors stressing the need for local independent oncology practices to be given priority approval to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to their immunocompromised patients. To read the letter, click here.
On February 3, the New York Times published this article, which outlines the challenges associated with clinicians getting the vaccine to cancer patients.
We hope these resources are helpful as you work to provide care and guidance to your patients during the ongoing pandemic.
